When unfortunate situations like school shootings, theater shootings and religious hate crimes get recognized and broadcasted amongst the masses of media, it seems certain advertisements begin to leech off of these. It’s also not just advertisements, but anything online that could utilize keywords related to these shootings.
Terms like:
“In memory of…” but it’s actually a headline for an underrated clothing line or something.
“Guns don’t kill people…” but these low prices do.
“Make a killing…” doing these surveys.
Now obviously those aren’t real ads above, but those are examples of the sort of keywords I’ve noticed to rise during these times.
If you think about this in a strictly statistical way, when there’s a new shooting or something all over the news and Facebook, the search keywords for “school shooting” or “gun rights” suddenly skyrocket. So why wouldn’t advertisements and other things that rely on internet search terms get a piece of it?
So, besides my observation, I ask of what you think.
Do you think advertisements and other internet entities that incorporate “school shooting” type search terms into everyday advertisement is morally sound?
