END OF THE WORLD!
Just kidding, but if you happened to visit the blog this Sunday, September 25, 2011, you may have noticed this as our homepage:
Very impressive TiGER-M@TE! Very convenient as well as I had to re-upload the entire website! One more thing though,
STOP IT ALREADY! PEOPLE MAKE LIVINGS ONLINE!
Now for the exclusive details!
It turns out there was some sort of break in the security at an Inmotion Hosting server, leaving it open for the boys at TiGER-M@TE to get their dirty hands on. They ended up refacing every file named “index” and replaced them with their stupid “index.php” file that ruined the homepage for thousands and thousands of hard working websites.
These are straight from the Inmotion Hosting website:
- The hacker’s goal was to deface sites.
- Our billing, domain management, and customer information system (AMP) was not targeted, nor was it available to the affected network and servers.
- Gaining passwords was not a goal and was not accomplished. The hacker used a system exploit to change a system password to allow him to access index files. We have blocked the exploit and changed the system password. As always though, it is recommended that you update your Cpanel and FTP passwords.
- Our systems team has blocked the exploit and is aggressively scanning for any other potential exploits
It could’ve been worse though! As far as Inmotion Hosting knows, no passwords or any other personal information was stolen, so it appears that TiGER-M@TE was just having a little fun. Even though this totally sucks for Inmotion Hosting customers, I’m sure we’ll be seeing some more of these hackers in the near future. So backup your websites, take security precautions and most importantly, don’t take crap from anybody!
Cheers!
